Pure Collagen
a guide to Collagen and its uses

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Many centuries ago, the Egyptians were pondering a way of being able to attach two items together, out of a sort of adhesive. This was long before the event of any synthetic chemicals, and long before a lot of scientific advancement that we have made in the recent centuries.
When observing the effects of animal meats and flesh when boiled, they discovered a sticky and almost translucent byproduct, which when dried, resulted in an effective adhesive that was readily available for use throughout the land.

This process usually converts the fatty acids found within the body into gelatin, which is widely used among cooking and desserts. For example, the last time you ate jelly or some sort of chewing gum, you were consuming a product of collagen.

However, these days collagen is often hydrolyzed and used within different types of synthetic adhesives, cosmetics and some collagen supplements. Not only that, but it is currently in testing to be able to repair damages, punctures and tears that may occur in the lungs. However, this technology may be decades away, as they are still in the animal testing period as it is far too dangerous to test on humans as of yet.

The hydroxylation of collagen is the synthesizing of the product, and making it more available through the identification of the beneficial proteins and the acids that make up the product, and distributing them into cost effective and small doses to still achieve the wanted effect.
Gelatin used in chewing gum and jelly desserts is a product of synthesized collagen, and gives the jelly its wobbly and odd texture, and the chewing gum its ever lasting effect.

However, hydrolyzed collagen is not restricted to edible items. Cosmetics often contain this product as an ingredient. Lipstick is the biggest user – collagen is the product that gives lipstick its texture, its ability to last longer by adapting to the skin cells and to make sure the colour lasts as long as possible.
It is commonly known that in the average lifetime a human woman will consume tones of gelatin and what is essentially just animal fat, due to the amount of lipstick worn and inadvertently consumed through use.

Collagen was also indirectly referenced within the screen adaptation of Annie. When Annie’s was still living in the orphanage, and she had her dog Sandy, the evil householder and owner of the orphanage threatened to take Sandy to the glue factory.
Due to the fact that animal fats and skins were often boiled down to get the gelatin byproduct to construct glue, it is commonly still assumed that that practice takes place.

Collagen has now been completely synthesized and made out of chemicals that, although they may not be entirely planet friendly, they do make the production of glue at lot simpler, and without the unnecessary killing of animals that may have other uses, as pets or help producing milk, eggs or other animal products.

Hydrolyzed collagen is a great and diverse product and innovative way to use collagen and gelatin, without having to mass produce and kill animals unnecessarily. The product can be distributed amongst other chemicals which give it a longer lasting effect, and many more diverse options for one amino acid, Collagen.
