a guide to Collagen and its uses

Collagen Gel

Collagen gel is an amazing medical product that encourages the skin to grow and develop usually after accidents that result in severe burns.

When the skin is burnt, it usually takes off several layers that are beneficial to protecting your body, not only from sunlight, but from every day occurrences like chemicals, or germs found on another human being.

The gel has been formulated and used for many centuries, the original idea and technology was discovered in the late 1970s.
Collagen is a high protein amino acid that makes most skin tissue, connective tissue, and tendons. Without collagen in the body, the body would have a low level of protein, and a lack of flexibility and every day protection that the average body needs to survive.
The collagen gel also provides a temporary skin, in order to allow the skin cells to regenerate, and begin the production in creating a new layer of protective cells.

When collagen is introduced to the skin, it usually results in a replenishment of the skins cells, and the natural collagen levels that are located within. However, when collagen is introduced to badly burned skin, it encourages the skin cells to re-grow, and increase the chances of minimal scarring from the skin that has dissipated in the intense heat.

These gels are most commonly administered in doctor’s practices, and of course in emergency rooms and any hospital that treats burns. Burn specialists require it in their practices, so if you have long suffering burns, but no need to stay in the hospital, inquire to see if you can keep a sample in case you suffer minor burns in the future.

The gel is not necessary extracted from bovine equivalents, in many cases collagen can be taken from the human body, usually the one which is suffering the intense burns. In a similar effect of a skin graft, the collagen is taken from another part of the body, processed and mixed with the appropriate supplements, and then introduced to the burn. This gives a higher success rate of the skin beginning to heal, due to the fact that the body is already used to the skin cells that are being provided in the collagen gel.

The gel can be found in some chemists too, Johnson and Johnson have their own version, which contains small amounts or chemical equivalents to collagen. Solugel is often used and easily distributed to calm smaller burns, and discourage any sort of scar tissue that may form shortly after the burn has started to heal.
The gel should not be allowed to dry when it is placed on the wound, as that will re-introduce the open skin tissue wound to the outside effects of chemicals and germs, and decrease the chances of a speedier recovery.

With a small collagen supplement, provided from the human body or the bovine equivalent, it’s amazing to see how diverse and incredibly important to the body. Burns and other like skin wounds are painful and hard to overcome, but with this vital gel, it becomes a lot easier to treat and help heal the skin after a traumatic event like burns.
