Due to the nature of collagen, it is readily used within cosmetic surgery and for surgery related to burns. Collagen is cosmetic surgery is usually used to plump lips, fill in wrinkles, or add a little more shape to an area of the body that needs it aesthetically.
It’s not uncommon for many women, and sometimes men, to have the tissue injected into their lips to fill them out and make them more luscious and pouty.
The flexibility of collagen means that it easily adapts to skin when applied, and has a tendency to move and grow as part of the body.
Collagen can also be applied to areas with severe wrinkling, to fill out the ‘ditches’ in the skin, and smooth them out as part of the body. While this does not have the same effect as botox, it is generally preferred as being a more natural and less chemically harsh approach to cosmetic surgery.
Collagen is also used to regenerate skin tissue among burn victims. After the skin tissue has been burnt, and is finding it hard to recuperate, it’s not uncommon to apply a collagen gel, or something of the like to the skin, to encourage new skin cells to grow, and the strengthening of the skin and bone tissue.
For cosmetic and medical purposes, collagen is usually derived from animals – mostly cattle from Australia and New Zealand.
This is due to the fact that both Australia and New Zealand have never had a reported case of Mad Cow Disease, thus rendering the collagen much more appropriate and complication free when applying to the body.
